Most people out there only think of the hotels as places to hold the receptions, but there are so many other creative ideas. Not to mention that since you are competing for space in hotel reception areas with conferences, it allows the hotel to have higher prices.

For instance, have you ever thought to have your wedding surrounded by dolphins! The Minnesota Zoo rents the space called Discovery Bay, which is surronded by dolphin tanks. It supplies the tables, chairs, linen and china, you just have to get a caterer. Many aquariums and zoos will rent out space, since they make money at night when they are typically closed.

An NBC affiliate in Boston did a study on floral shops and their pricing. What they did was order things like centerpieces and floral arrangments and boutonniers...all of which are needed in weddings. They stayed away from bridal bouquets and bridesmaids bouquets because they are only at weddings. So, after getting the quotes they called those same flower shops and got bids on a retirement party, asking for the same arrangements.

Out of 11 floral shops, can you guess how many had lower prices on the same wedding floral arrangements for the retirement party...

State by state it varies, but for the most part, yes, religious weddings outnumber civil ceremonies. However, I think it is astonishing how large a percentage of civil ceremonies are performed in so many states. The odd thing is that for some reason, Nevada, which obviously includes Las Vegas, was left out of the study. Obviously, that state would most likely lead in civil ceremonies, but would it surprise you to know that there are other states that have more than half of their marriages performed as civil ceremonies, not weddings.

Forget wedding flowers! How do you like that for "how to save money on flowers". Seriously though, you can look into companies that do balloon arrangements, which can be 50 to 70 percent off on the savings and can make your wedding something unique.

Another centerpiece idea would be to buy a goldfish bowl, a couple of goldfish, a mirrored tile to place them on with small votive candles nearby to shimmer off the tile. You can donate the fish to grade schools after you are done with them. The cost of this is typically less than $10 per table.
