Having your wedding ceremony performed by a woman is not something that is entirely unusual - women have been performing ceremonies for quite some time. The Catholic Church, however, does not allow women to become priests, so a Catholic Wedding must always be performed by a man - until now.
Nine women have defiantly challenged the male hierarchy of the Catholic Church and have arranged to be ordained as Priests.
"In our hearts we want the church to address this within itself, because it will never be a just church until it does," said Michele Birch-Conery, a former Catholic nun.
Pope Benedict XVI has excommunicated women from the church for similar actions while he was a Cardinal, but he has yet to react to this event.
Marie David, of Harwich, Massachussetts was one of those ordained and has plans to begin performing baptisms and weddings in her home town.
