You want to capture your big day with pictures for sure, but have not really given much thought to whether or not you want your wedding videoed. This is a personal decision of course and will probably depend on your budget; however the majority of couples who have their weddings professionally videotaped consider it a worthwhile investment. However, many couples make the mistake of handing off their personal camcorder to a guest for their wedding video. This is a mistake because the essence of the ceremony and reception are rarely captured and the up and down movement and lack of technique lend to a roller coaster viewing experience.

Once you have decided that you indeed want a professional video of your wedding you should know the reasons why a professional videographer is so important. First of all, with a professional videographer your wedding video will be a true representation of your wedding. The videographer has the right equipment to capture sound, lighting, knows how to film steadily, or with multiple cameras, and will provide you with a video you will be proud to show your children. Also, when a professional is responsible for making a wedding video you will have an outsider’s view of the wedding as compared to your relative filming and walking up to everyone, filming their face ultra close, asking inappropriate questions, or any of the other myriad of occurrences that happen when inexperienced individuals get behind a camera.

Amazingly, new technology allows wedding videographers to be even less intrusive than ever before. The reason for this is because video equipment is now smaller than ever, frequently wireless, has better audio and video qualities, and allows the videographer to capture the event without hassling anybody. Frequently, videographers set up multiple cameras to catch different angles of the wedding and reception and the have a hand held camera as well. Because of this, the wedding videographer will be able to edit the wedding video so it is perfect and really shows what your wedding was really like. This is certainly not what you will get if your relative or guest films the wedding. Also, when you hire a professional you won’t have to worry about whether or not the video turns out like you would if a guest filmed. Not to mention, you won’t ruin any relationships because the wedding video did not meet your expectations. If you don’t have the budget for a wedding video you can cut back on some flowers or pictures so you can afford a professional videographer. Whatever you do, make sure the professional hired to film your wedding video is truly a professional, has examples of past weddings to show you, and is not simply an individual trying to make some extra cash by filming wedding videos. A real professional will be able to prove to you his experience through examples and equipment.
