The largest cost in professionally made cakes is the decorations, including icing. It is making those sides smooth, like glass. So, how do you get around it and how in the world do you decorate it yourself?!?
Simple. Get a plain basic cake with a simple icing and then use the bridesmaid's bouquets to surrond the sides of the cake. Buy extra flowers to place in the top of each layer of the cake to complete the look. This could save you up to 40 percent on the total cost of the cake.
