EHow.com has an interesting set of 10 steps to choosing your wedding dress. A few tips and warnings are included as well.

Examples of advice:

Avoid taking too many friends shopping with you. They might never agree on the same dress, and you might end up confused and frustrated.

If you are petite or short-waisted, consider buying a custom made gown. Contact local seamstresses with designs you like. You may have to shop around for patterns, fabrics, and trimming, but it will fit perfectly.

Sometimes you save money on alterations on gowns that will need to be hemmed by having the gown come with an unfinished hem and unattached detailing; this works well if it has lots of lace or beading on the bottom. Ask your sales/alterations person.
