Many wedding dresses get preserved after the ceremony, or put in a closet never to be worn again.
If your size changes and you don't see the opportunity to wear your dress again here are a few ideas that will do your gown justice.
The first option in many minds is to pass the dress on to a daughter or granddaughter for use in her wedding. This really is only an option if the dress is preserved extremely well.
Another option is to sell the dress to another bride - maybe on e-bay or through a local consignment shop. This helps to recover some of the costs, but usually you don't get anywhere near the value of the dress.
I've also seen a few dresses framed and put up in living rooms or family rooms as part of the decor, but that takes a special personality to keep it up on display.
The best option that I've heard of is making another dress out of the material. You can make a beautiful christening gown, flower girl's dress, or a dress for any formal occasion really for your daughter. This assumes that you've preserved your dress reasonably well so that the material is still in good condition. The memories that this kind of thing can provide are wonderful, the cost for having it done is not going to be outrageous, and the occasion will be made that much more special.
