A wedding guest book is a long held standard, but the guest book is rarely reviewed, and many guests simply sign their names or leave one of several standard well wishing messages.
Here's an idea that you can use that will allow your guests to leave a more lasting impression on your wedding day.
Rather than having a guestbook, you can leave notecards at each table for the reception. The notecards can be postcards, small cards the size of table place cards. Your guests can write notes to the bride and groom and place them in a box or a vase.
When the reception is over, you can have a family member or wedding party member collect your notes and hold them for you until you get back from your honeymoon. They can mail them to you so that when you get back you receive a series of well wishing notes that reminds you of your special day, or even mail a few to you once a week so that you have a weekly reminder.
The cards can then be placed in a scrapbook which can take the place of the traditional guestbook. You can even organize it in any way you choose - a section for funny cards, a section for romantic wishes, a section of advice, or perhaps a section that contains all the family messages, one for the bridal party, etceteras.
The idea of postcards would be really good if you are having a destination wedding, but if you are getting married near your home, you probably don't want postcards depicting photos of your local environment. If you are going to use table cards, it's a good idea to use a series of colors so that you can have a variety of colors in your scrapbook. This is also a good and inexpensive way to add some color to all the white decor at your reception.
Don't forget to make pens available to your guests.
You can certainly choose to use this idea and to also have a traditional guestbook, but if we suggested that from the beginning the title of this article wouldn't make very much sense :).
