A wedding guest book is a long held standard, but the guest book is rarely reviewed, and many guests simply sign their names or leave one of several standard well wishing messages.
Here's an idea that you can use that will allow your guests to leave a more lasting impression on your wedding day.
Rather than having a guestbook, you can leave notecards at each table for the reception. The notecards can be postcards, small cards the size of table place cards. Your guests can write notes to the bride and groom and place them in a box or a vase.

Take a penny. Wrap it in a square of silk or lace or something similar of your choice. Pull all four corners up and tie it off with a ribbon.
Done.
You have just created a lucky penny for your guests to take home. Course, you might what to include a small piece of paper with the words "Lucky Penny" on it, so that there is no doubt in understanding what it is that they received.
Course, you can go one step further.
You can buy a lottery scratch off ticket so that they can use the penny.
