Wedding Flowers : Advice

More articles on the Wedding Flowers topic: Advice

The timeline for finding a florist, ideally, is 9 to 12 months prior to your wedding. Many florists get booked up quickly for the summer months, although most would still try to accommodate you - possibly with newly hired staff which might make your flower arrangements second rate.

We highly recommend getting recommendations from other brides in your area. Other resources to find florsits include the yellow pages and various on-line resources like Google. Trimming down the list should be relatively easy based on initial impressions.

Get in touch with each of the florists you find to have an initial consultation. If you go in with a good idea of what you want you will be better off in your evaluation. Mid-week appointments are better, and especially during the few holiday free months. You will find their attention undivided if you go in during a slow time.

Good florists will take your ideas and expand on them. They will fill you in on mistakes you have made, such as choosing flowers that are out of season. Keep in mind that out of season flowers are usually available, but at a much higher price for lower quality stems.

Don't let the florist talk you into selecting a bouquet before you get your wedding dress. The flowers should compliment your dress.

Your florist should be able to help you select colors that will suit you, and choose arrangements that are both elegant and beautiful. If they sit you down with an FTD catalog and walk away, you should do the same. If you have difficulty in selecting colors, white and cream colored flowers match all skin tones and wedding decor. (You should always at least have a modicum of color, though).

When selecting a florist, find one that you will be comfortable communicating with over the next nine to twelve months. Somebody who is too busy or is not attentive during your planning phases is likely to disappoint you on your wedding day.
