Wine glasses are a nice, inexpensive wedding gifts that are universally appreciated. Having a nice set of wine glasses or at least a nice pair of wine glasses can really enhance the wine drinking/tasting experience.

Different wine glasses are designed for different types of wines, although it's easy to get away with just a few shapes for general use in the home - at least until you become a connoisseur.

Riedel.com has an incredible selection of glasses, as well as information about the various wines and regions they were designed for. They also have a classy selection of decanters.

The "Wine" collection is a great place to start to gain an appreciation for the difference quality glassware makes, and it is lead-free.

For the selective among you, the vinum and vinum extreme collections are worthy of review and unfortunately for us the prices reflect the quality.

As a general rule, red wines require large glasses, white wines medium-sized glasses and spirits, small ones (to emphasize the fruit character and not the alcohol). Glasses should not be overfilled - reds should be served in quantities of four to five ounces, whites in threes, and spirits in one ounce servings.

  2. The Reidel Wine and Glass Guide - you can see that they put an enormous amount of thought in their wine glasses. You can select your favorite wine here, and they will recommend a glass.
Wine Glasses - Helpful Books
  1. If somebody already purchased all the wine glasses in the gift registry, a coffee table book is always a good idea. This book is described as: The ultimate guide for wine lovers who want to understand where their favorite wines are grown, how they are produced, and how best to savor them.

  2. Learning about wine, everything there is to know about wine, seems like a daunting task to most people, myself included. But before you can become the wine connoisseur to impress someone at a fancy restaurant, you have to know the basics and this book sums them up nicely.
