It is absolutely imperative when you send out formal invitations to your wedding that the name on the outer envelope matches the name on the inner envelope(s). You certainly would not want Mr. and Mrs. John Adams to open their envelope and see another envelope inside addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson.

There are two ways that you can address this issue, both being rather simple.

The first method you can use (and the easiest option), is to not address the inner envelopes at all. For the most part, guests will not necessarily expect that each envelope be addressed; but the problem still arises when you send out named inserts with your invitations.

The second method really just requires that you are aware of the potential for a problem before you start stuffing and come up with a system to prevent it from happening. You can either address the envelopes in succession - the outer envelope, then the inner envelope and stuff them as you address them; or you can put them in alphabetical stacks after they are all addressed. Double or triple check that the names match every five or so envelopes and you should be in good shape.
