Their are four major types of printing. There is Engraving, which is for formal to very formal weddings. Thermography, which is for informal to semi-formal weddings. Lithography, which is for informal to semi-formal. Printed, which is for more informal weddings. Of course, some may look at it another way...Engraving is the most expensive and then Thermography and then Lithography and then Printed. After all, I may consider my wedding to be formal and not be as loaded as Donald Trump and therefore Printed is still formal to me. Course, knowing what the differences are might help...
Engraving is when you stamp the paper leaving an impression and then ink is applied. It produces a raised print on the front of the paper and a depression on the back.
Thermography is a heating process that actually fuses the ink and powder so that it looks like engraving but the letters are raised only in the front.
Lithography creates more of a watercolor effect with pale background designs. The ink ends up flat with a matte finish.
Printed can be produced in a print shop or at home. It may require using a lighter-wieght paper to get through the printer.
