Of course, Diamonds are a girls best friend. But beautiful rings aren't always diamond rings, and wedding rings don't have to be made of diamonds. You could have a custom ring designed with other stones that would be so beautiful that you would almost forget that there isn't a diamond there. This is the first in a series of articles about gemstones that may provide some special meaning for you.

The Apache Tear is a gemstone that would primarily have meaning for those of you with an American Indian heritage, or perhaps if you are from the Western U.S. and have a fond memory of them.

The Apache Tear is an igneous rock - formed form a volcanoe, that appears black most of the time, but is translucent when held up to the light. Essentially, it is volcanic glass.

The Apache Tear takes it name from a Native American legend that tells that the stones are the hardened tears that the Apache people cried when they were forced to leave their homes by the white man and witnessed the destruction of the land and wildlife. Another legend states that the stones are the hardened tears of the Apache women who cried as brave warriors died in battle.
