A commonly asked question by girls is "When can I wear my engagement ring?"
A bride may wear her engagement or wedding ring as soon as she receives it - assuming that neither her or the groom to be are already married and are awaiting a divorce. If an engagement party is planned where a surprise announcment will be made, you probably want to hold off until the announcment is made.
The ring is to be worn on the fourth finger of your left hand (next to your pinkie). In some countries it is worn on the fourth finger of the right hand. During the ceremony, you are to remove your engagement ring, and replace it with your wedding ring, which is worn closest to your heart. The engagement ring is then replaced above the wedding ring.
Of course, if you receive your engagement ring prior to your proposal, it should not be worn until the proposal formally occurs.

My experience as a jeweler is that 99.99% of our customers begin to wear their engagement rings as soonas they pick them up. Wedding bands are usually saved for the wedding ceremeony.

Is it correct that only the woman gets an engagement ring? My other question is regarding wedding bands for men. Does the bride usually buy the wedding band for her fiancé? I'm confused. And where would a promise ring fit in?
