Everything has a beginning, so where did rings at weddings come from?
The fact is that no one is sure exactly. However, there is historical data that shows that wedding rings were given during ancient Roman times. Of course, most of the time it was a plain band of iron, which might not fly well with any girl today. Over the centuries the custom was adopted all over the western world with it becoming more and more symbolic. Sometimes the ring was given at the ceremony and sometimes before. Given that when it comes to rings and jewels, women find more to always be better, I think it is safe to conclude that the two traditions are what caused the transistion to giving an engagement ring and a wedding band. This did not begin until the eighteenth century in England and continues today.
