The question of where wedding rings come from is virtually unanswerable, but we have found a viable answer. Whether or not it is correct, it certainly is interesting.
In ancient Rome, it was believed that the ring finger actually was the only finger with a vein that flowed directly to the heart. The ring was worn then as it is today as a symbol of love with a direct connection to the wearers heart.
Ok, so maybe that's not the best answer, and certainly it isn't the only possibility, and of course people were probably married before Rome came into power... but it is interesting nonetheless.
