The origin of the term tuxedo doesn't go back as far as you might think. The standard wedding garb worn by grooms originated in 1866.
Tobacco heir Griswold Lorillard shocked the ballroom at the Tuxedo Park Country Club's annual autumn gala by showing up wearing a tailless black dinner coat.
The coat, as he would later tell the story, was fashioned after a description a friend had given him of a coat worn by the Prince of Wales. The idea soon spread around the world.
The Tuxedo Park Country Club is in Tuxedo Park, New York - so for those residents out there, you now know that the Tuxedo was named after your home town and not the other way around.

Nice site! I used to do stuff along these lines too. I'm an ex-baker and had a site years ago about wedding cakes, their origins and how to decorate or create one.
